Live & N-E-W (Real Estate, Jogging & Kormac)

Quick locally kinda roundup.

If you're in Galway go see Real Estate tonight in Roisin Dubh. You'd be silly not to. Tickets are €10, but if you went to Dinosaur Jr. and Built To Spill last night you can get in free as long as you still have the ticket code. (Dino and Built were pretty good by the way, the crowd wasn't great, but everyone seemed really stoned so that could have been it. I suppose with Head Shops closing today everyone went wild with the auld fake hash). But yes, Real Estate, real good band, have a listen.

Real Estate - Fake Blues Alt

Yet another cracking release from Irish wunder-label The Richter Collective, home of Adebisi Shank, Not Square, Bats and loads more awesome bands. This time from Jogging. Their debut album is called Minutes. It's heavy and loud, but ultimately fulfilling to listen to. You can listen to the whole thing on their Bandcamp page before purchasing it in any format you wish for just €5. Also, they're playing June 17th in the Roisin Dubh, Galway, supported by the magnificent Nouveaunoise who'll be playing a gig upstairs after too. I'll be posting about them again once I get my hands on their debut album.

Jogging - Threadbare Alt

Another Irish release is from Kormac. This Dublin DJ has had Irish and international dancefloors hopping for the past few years, playing and touring with the likes Grandmaster Flash, DJ Yoda and Coldcut, sometimes as a DJ, other times with a full 11 piece swing band (aka, Kormac's Big Band) who use a mix of live turntables, samplers, drums, double bass, barbershop quartet, trumpet, clarinet, banjo and live visuals. He also hosts his own night, the Bakesale, that does exactly what it says on the tin. If you'd like to have Kormac down for a Bakesale e-mail darren@bodytonicmusic.com. Here's what goes down:

Awesome no? Always a good time. His debut album Word Play is out now and available through iTunes and Juno. It's an absolute cracker, definitely one of my favourite albums of the year, featuring some great guests, like Irish Hip-Hop heroes Messiah J and The Expert, Koaste, MC Little Tree and DJ Yoda, who he'll be touring with over the next while including a date in Galway on June 12th in Cuba. It's gonna be a belter.

Here's a taster:
